How to Use Social Media to Help Fundraise

The world has been widely influenced by social media. Whether you’re a social media wiz or just getting into the world of digital media, it really can serve a purpose for all.

For fundraising specifically, it can be incredibly helpful both in raising funds and in simply getting the word out about your fundraising efforts. To help you use social media as a fundraising tool, we’ve compiled a few tips to help you get the most out of social media.

Create a Strategy

The first step of utilizing social media for fundraising purposes is to determine which platforms will serve your goals best. Fundraising isn’t typically a B2B venture, but keep in mind that companies may be willing to purchase from you as an organization. In this case, LinkedIn may be a platform you want to explore. Facebook may be the most effective platform to get the attention of your community, but do your research and determine which platforms suit your fundraising needs best.

After you’ve determined the platform(s) you’d like to utilize, create content, social posts, and ways for people to easily access your fundraiser on that particular platform. The key here is to be consistent. Think about things like; how many times per week can you post and interact with your audience on social media? When is your audience most likely to engage with your posts?

Create a strategy that works for your fundraiser and that can generate some engagement, and start seeing your fundraiser grow online!

Connect with the Community

Social media is meant to be just that, social! When just starting out on social media, it’s easy to start promoting how great your fundraiser is and post all about your products. But this is really not the best way to promote on social. Your audience wants to interact, be entertained, or become aware of something that will benefit them.

Join groups or pages that are popular with the audience that you’re looking to target. Don’t be afraid to get social! Posting on your page is just one part of the social media puzzle. It’s also important to share, comment, and like other pages and posts. This not only makes you more visible, but it gives your fundraising efforts a more genuine and interactive image.

Showcase Your Fundraiser

Now that you’ve taken the time to lay out a strategy and interact with your community, it’s time to gain some awareness and let everyone know who you are and what you are offering them. A great way to showcase your fundraiser is to put all of the products you offer onto your social media page. Facebook has a great tool within their platforms that actually allows your audience to purchase products right from your company page.

Take the time to navigate through the tools offered on different platforms and utilize the ones that will allow you to showcase your products, your volunteers, and perhaps most importantly, your story. Your audience wants to know why they should purchase from your fundraiser, so use your posts and your page to really tell your story.

Social media is an incredibly useful tool, and by using these tips you can make the most out of your social media presence and even grow your fundraiser!
